2011 AIBD VA Events
___
Special note:
AIBD is in need of your help. It cost National approx. 35 cents per name to buy contact lists. The Officers Committee has an initiative to help avoid this expense by asking each to work within their society to collect contact information of potential members. Society Officers and Members can use the phone book yellow pages, internet search or personal contacts. Feel free to be creative in you search! No list will be too small, so see what you can come up with. If you are like me, unless you have a date to work toward, it is easy to put it off or forget to get it done. So the Officers Committee is asking that each society report on it's list by it's next meeting, Wednesday, April 20TH. Let's see how many contacts we can come up with. Remember, we need Name, Address, Email, Website and don't forget Phone Nos. Tip, Websites may have all of the above. To help with this, the Washington Society has offered a document that list many of the benefits of Membership in AIBD. You may want to use it when you make personal contacts.
April 20th is the deadline and not too far off. Please take a few minutes if you would and please write me a list of contacts you feel are appropriated for submittal and discussion for our state. I have 2 I know of offhand that would be good leads. This can be designers or even builders who do their own design. And don’t forget kitchen and bath designers as well.
Click here to see a sample of what the AIBD Washington Society uses for recruitment. I thought it was beneficial.
I have heard from 3 people about our Monticello trip. Please let me know if you’re interested in going. On Friday, we’re posting ticket availability to outside sources.
Look forward to hearing from you.

May 14, 2011
Greetings AIBD Virginia!
I am pleased to announce that we have booked our tour of Monticello.
Date: Saturday May 14
Where: Monticello
931 Thomas Jefferson Parkway
Charlottesville, VA 22902 (for GPS)
Activities: 11:30 am - Lunch at Michie Tavern; 683 Thomas Jefferson Parkway; Charlottesville, VA; meet at plantation at 1:30 to begin tours.
Websites: http://www.monticello.org/site/visit
http://www.michietavern.com/
We have purchased 20 available tickets for the above date at a tour time of 1:30pm. Out of the 20 tickets, 7 of them will be for the ‘behind the scenes’ tour which is a tour of the upstairs dome of the house. Standard tickets are $22 and includes a tour of the house and the grounds. The ‘behind the scenes’ tour tickets are $37 and include a tour of the house plus the upstairs and the grounds. Tickets for the ‘behind the scenes’ tour will go fast and are first come first serve. If you want to take this tour, please notify me immediately and I’ll reserve one for you. All ticket purchases are payable in cash on the day of the tour. Please let me know if you’re coming and we’ll make sure and set them aside accordingly. These tickets are being offered to Virginia Society Members first and also if members have a guest they’d like to bring.
I’ve heard varying stories about length of tour time. I would say you would be safe to say that if our tours start at 1:30, they’ll probably conclude around 4:30 depending on which tours you attend.
AIBD National has not reviewed the CE value of our excursion yet, but I’m hoping they approve 2 CE’s.
I found out that April and May are the busiest months for Monticello. We were fortunate to get these tickets on such short notice. Especially for the weekend. It should be an excellent tour and worth the trip. There is also the Monticello Wine Festival on the West Lawn from 6-9pm that evening. Follows is a link for Things to do in Charlottesville:
